How to Straighten Hair Without Frizz

There's nothing worse than wanting straight, shiny hair and leaving the house with a ball of frizz, that shoulda coulda been a sleek, easy style.By following a few simple steps, straight, flawless hair will no longer be unreachable. All you need is a few items, time and patience. If your hair tends to be normal to dry, skip the wash for a night and straighten the next day. It gives the hair better manageability with less flyaways. If your hair is generally oily, wash as usual.

Instructions

First, if you've just washed your hair and dried it (either air-dried or blow-dried), leave some time before you straighten. This is especially true for drier hair whose default setting is to become frizzy without help. Not everyone is genetically blessed with perfect-wake-up-in-the-morning-and-go straight hair. For those who have to work for sleek styles, there are ways around genetics.

Give yourself plenty of time to straighten your hair once you are ready. Depending on hair thickness and length, straightening can take anywhere from 10 minutes to 1 hour. Plug in the straightener and set the temperature to the temperature indicated for your hair type in the straightener's instuctions. Generally, thicker hair needs a higher temperature. Let the straightener heat up for a couple of minutes.

While the straightener is heating up, take the hair clip and clip up about 3/4 of your hair, leaving the lowest portion of hair to work with. Run your comb or brush through the hair that is down to take out any knots or tangles. When the straightener is ready, begin at one side of the hair section, taking a piece of hair approximately an inch thick and run the straightener slowly down it. Be sure not to slide the straightener down the hair too fast.

Continue taking inch-wide sections for the hair that is down and running the straightener through. When the last piece is done, remove another quarter of the lower most hair from the hair clip. Begin again taking 1-inch pieces from one side of the hair you just took down. Continue to the other side of the head. Once complete, take another quarter of hair down and repeat.

When the last section is down, be sure to brush or comb the pieces around the face the way you want them to be with regard to your part. Complete the final section with the straightener. When all hair has been straightened, run the comb through once more to make sure you didn't miss any hair. Rub a dollop of shine cream between your hands. Run your hands through your hair to give it extra shine and to tame any frizz.
