How to Use a Flat Iron for Tousled Ringlets

Creating tousled ringlets in your hair using a flat iron is much easier than it sounds and often produces better, more polished results than a traditional curling iron. Flat irons are able to offer equal amounts of heat on both clamps, whereas curling irons are only heated at the barrel and take longer to create curls that hold with the clamp. Better yet, using a flat iron gives you the freedom to style your curls in any direction the you'd like, as opposed to the default style a curling iron produces.

Instructions

Plug in your flat iron and turn it on. While it's heating up, brush your hair thoroughly to get rid of all tangles and snags so that the flat iron runs through it easier.

Take a one-inch section of hair in your fingers, separating it from the rest of your hair. Clamp the flat iron at the top of the section, near the root. Without moving the flat iron downward, turn it in a complete circle one and a half times in the direction you want the ringlets to go. Holding the position of the flat iron, pull it down toward the ends of your hair. Repeat until all of your hair is in ringlets. If necessary, pin ringlets up to your head using bobby pins as you go along to keep them out of the way as you curl.

Tousle the ringlets by shaking the hair out with your fingers. Mist your entire head with some hair spray to hold the style.
