How to Use a Rubber Band to Style Hair

Rubber bands are a quick and easy solution for new hair styles. However, you must use rubber bands that are meant for hair. Never use a standard rubber band, as it can damage your follicles.

Instructions

    1

Start with clean, dry hair. Use a brush to detangle and smooth your hair.

    2

Comb back a small section of hair at the back of the head. Smooth the top of the back combed area by running a brush over the very top layer of hair.

    3

Pull all of your hair back, using your hands. Smooth your hair with a brush.

    4

Hold your hair in a ponytail with one hand. Continue to brush and smooth the hair with the other hand. Regrip the ponytail each time you brush the hair back.

    5

Grip the hair in a ponytail firmly, with one hand, once the hair is smoothed back to your liking. Use the other hand to slide the rubber band onto the pony tail. Keep your hair pulled tight the entire time.

    6

Stretch the rubber band to one side of the ponytail. Twist the rubber band one time to form a second loop. Slide the loop over the ponytail. Continue to twist the rubber band and slide it on until the rubber band is securely in your hair.

    7

Push down on the rubber band gently to loosen your hair if it is pulled too tight. Separate the ponytail into two sections and pull each piece in a separate direction to tighten the ponytail.
