Think you can't create the perfectly formed spiral curls that celebrities sport? The truth is, it's all in the twist of the wrist. With the right tools, hair products and know-how, you can get red carpet-worthy spiral curls that will stay looking fabulous well into the night.

Instructions

    1

Heat up your curling iron. Use a - to 1-inch-sized barrel for smaller curls, or a 1-inch barrel for larger curls.

    2

Brush through hair to remove any tangles.

    3

Section off a two-inch-thick section of hair along the bottom of your hair line. Pin the rest of your hair up and out of the way.

    4

Take a one-inch-wide section of hair from the left or right front area of the larger section. Mist the section with a thermal protective spray.

    5

Open the heated curling iron's barrel and clamp the top of the barrel down on the ends of the small section.

    6

Twist the curling iron upward, toward your scalp, making sure the small section of hair wraps around the barrel of the curling iron in a spiral pattern. Try not to overlap the hair for best results.

    7

Twist toward your face for curls that face forward, away from your face for curls that face backward.

    8

Hold the curling iron in place for five to 10 seconds, depending on the thickness of your hair. Release the hair from the curling iron's barrel and slide the barrel out from the newly formed spiral curl in a gentle, downward motion.

    9

Repeat this process for all the hair in this bottom section. Alternate the directions you twist the curling iron for a more natural look.

    10

Section off another two-inch-thick section of hair, above the first one, and curl the hair in this section as with the first. Continue to section off and curl hair until the entire head is done.

    11

Arrange the spiral curls with your fingers. If some spiral curls have frizzed, coat fingers lightly with a styling wax and gently glide fingers down the spiral curls to smooth them.

    12

Mist with a medium-hold, humidity-proof hairspray to hold the curls in place.
