Many women with straight hair often find themselves wishing their hair was wavy or curly. It's such a desired trait that women will spend hours of their time and plenty of money either paying someone to curl their hair or buying the styling equipment and products to do it themselves. A curling iron is often the first thing women will try to get curly hair, but it can be time consuming and may result in burns to the face and neck. Luckily, there are plenty of options for women with straight hair who would prefer an occasional curl or bounce.

Perm

A perm is a long-term solution for women who want curly hair. A hair stylist at a salon can give you a perm to make your hair curly for months. A perm involves setting the hair in curlers or rods and using a chemical process to make the hair curly. A perm won't last forever, however. After a few months, the curl will begin to fade and you'll have to get another perm if you want to keep your hair curly. One possible drawback to a perm is the cost. They can be pricey, with long hair costing more than shorter styles.

Rollers

Another option for straight-haired women is to use rollers to achieve curly hair. Several different kinds of rollers are available. Women who use foam rollers might have more success by setting their hair while wet and letting it dry in the rollers before taking them out. Hot rollers are another good choice. After they heat up, all you have to do is roll your hair around them and pin them in. Take them out after a few minutes and your hair will be curly.

Braiding

For a looser curl, you can use braids. Start by thoroughly wetting your hair and applying a small amount of mousse or gel. Then braid your hair, using one braid for a wavy look or several smaller braids for a more curly look. Make sure your hair is completely dry before taking the braids out. It's a good idea to let it dry overnight. Once you take the braids out, spray your hair with hairspray to help hold the curl in.

Styling Products

Several hair-care companies make a wide selection of products designed for women with curly hair. If you hair has a wavy look and you'd like tighter curls, these products can help. Some mousses and gels are designed specifically for curly hair and can help enhance or lock in your curls. If you have straight hair and want a curly look, these products can also help lock in your new-found curls.
