Surfing, a beloved water sport is more than just a sport to some. Surfing is an entire lifestyle based around the ocean and what it brings. Beaches, bikinis, and surf boards are staples in the surfing community. Moreover, not only are these key items important but more important to the surfing lifestyle is image. Image in the surfing community comes in the form of hair and the styles that it takes on. Surfer hair is more than the typical messy, tousled locks that most surfers sport. Surfer hairstyles have evolved into more defined, layered and shorter hairstyles that can accommodate more than just the typical surfer.

Typical surfer boy hairstyles are the typical surfer hairstyles that have graced the cover of magazines since the 1960s. This hairstyle is longer, and bob-like. The typical surfer boy hairstyle lacks layers and depth with monochromatic length throughout. Moreover, this hairstyle has shaggy bangs that extend slightly past the eye area. This hairstyle is versatile since the do can be worn either straight or wavy while maintaining the effortless surfer image. Celebrities like Ryan Hansen and Taylor Kitsch are examples of the typical surfer boy hairstyle.

Dreadlocks are formed by utilizing either short of long hair (longer hair is preferred) and making the locks into large twists or braids of differentiating sizes. Actor, model, and surfer Jason Momoa is well known for his dreadlock style.
