Throughout all of the years that Elvis was a famous performer, his hairstyle remained the same, except for his more elaborate sideburns. Elvis used Brut shampoo and Clairol hair dye in blue-black to get that desired jet black color. Creating your own Elvis hairstyle takes time and a little bit of effort, but with practice, you'll be able to pull of the look with ease.

Instructions

    1

Get a haircut. Tell your stylist that you're looking for an Elvis look. If your hair is not long enough, you will need to let it grow out or purchase an Elvis wig.

    2

Dye your hair jet black. The first step to achieving an Elvis Presley hairdo is by getting the right color. Purchase hair dye at your local drug store or have it done professionally at a salon.

    3

Straighten your hair. Elvis did not have curly hair. His hair was slightly wavy but not stick straight although straight hair will work fine to achieve the Elvis style. Use a hair straightener and straighten 1 inch sections at a time.

    4

Wash your hair and rinse well. Do not blow dry your hair. Pat dry the hair with a towel until it is just slightly damp. Use a hair gel to slick your hair back, beginning with the sides, just above the ears. To get the volume at the top, comb your hair at the top of your head straight up, allowing it to fall back towards your head.

    5

Comb both sides of your hair straight back with a narrow-toothed comb. Comb the top section of hair straight up, allowing it to fall backwards again, loosely. This may take a few tries to get the perfect Elvis hairdo.

    6

Comb your sideburns down on the sides of your face as low as possible. Use gel if needed to keep the strands in place.

    7

Flick your comb on a small section of hair right above the forehead, allowing a loose strand of hair to fall out of place. This is the perfect pompadour, and it completes the Elvis look.

    8

Spray your entire head with a few spritzes of hairspray and allow it to set for about a minute.
