How to Make One's Hair Look Funky

You've had the same dull hairstyle for a decade, and you feel like you're caught in a rut. You're looking for a drastic style change to a new and funky look. No matter the type of hair you have, follow these steps to make a wildly exotic hairdo that is funky and sure to draw attention--and make you the envy of your friends.

Instructions

    1

Create a new color scheme that complements your natural hair, eye and skin shades. Be sure to consider how much maintenance will be required and make sure you prepared for the time and expense it will take. For a change of color that is very different from your natural shade, you may require touch-ups every 4 to 6 weeks, so keep that in mind when you change from drab to funky.

    2

Experiment with hair color that washes out easily to try new shades and have some fun before deciding on a permanent look. Try coloring only your bangs or add compelling shades to your ends.

    3

Brush color onto the edges of straight hair with the use of an applicator, such as bright pink or green. Combine curly hair with straight hair by adding extensions or using a straightener gadget to create a wild and crazy look.

    4

Part curly hair in the front and let a bunch of curls fall across one side of your head. Gather some of those strands to one side, and use a curling iron to give yourself some more compact curls.

    5

Blend curls with another texture to experiment with a new look. Brush the hair at the crown of your head straight and use pins to bind the curls, weaving them in and out of the straight hair sections. Add highlights to your curls in bold colors and add more than one color to add variety. Create a frizzy look by brushing out your curls.

    6

Give yourself a mohawk. Use a shaver to remove the hair from both sides of your head, leaving a strip of hair in the back that can be shaped into sharp points using a firm syling gel. Apply color in a wild color, such as bright orange or red.
