How to Scrunch Straight Thick Hair

Hairstyles come and go. One year, wavy hair is in; the next, stick straight. But no matter what type of hair you have, it's natural to want to try a different look to stay in style with the times. Generally, hair needs a bit of natural texture and bend to scrunch well, but even those with straight, thick hair can benefit from a few tricks and products that hold the hair in a certain position.

Instructions

Dampen or wash your hair. Towel dry your hair to remove excess moisture so that your hair is not soaking wet.

Place a dollop or two of your favorite hair gel, mousse or styling product in your palms, and rub them together to distribute it evenly on your hands.

Bend over at the waist and let your hair hang straight down. Grab small sections of hair and ball it up as you would crumple a piece of paper. Ensure that product is getting on the hair you are scrunching.

Spray your hair with a super-hold hair spray after you scrunch it.

Dampen or wash your hair. Towel dry so that hair is not soaking wet.

Braid your hair in three or four large braids. Make sure you get all of your hair in braids. Sleep in them overnight.

Remove braids in the morning. Loosen the waves with your fingers.

Tousle your hair, then scrunch or finger wave your unbraided strands.

Spray your hair well with a super-hold hairspray.

Dampen or wash your hair. Towel dry so that hair is not soaking wet.

Apply your favorite setting gel or mousse, making sure you apply the product from roots to ends.

Roll your hair around foam rollers and sit under a dryer for up to 30 minutes to set your style.

Let your hair cool completely, then remove the rollers.

Tousle your hair; then scrunch or tightly finger wave your rolled sections.

Spray your hair well with a super-hold hairspray.
