How to Make Natural Hair Styling Gel

Here's a simple but very effective way to make a natural styling gel. You can even make it organic if you choose to, and the cost is minimal. This natural hair styling gel comes from one simple plant - flax, the plant that creates linen. When you follow this technique, you'll create a natural hair styling gel that works wonders to lift the hair, give it more body, and keep it in place. It contains no alcohol that dries hair and makes it brittle.

Gather the simple ingredient and supplies to make natural hair styling gel. You'll need flaxseed which is often sold in health food stores. People grind it and add it as a nutritional supplement to their food, so knowing it's food grade lets you know it's safe for your hair. Avoid agriculture or genetically modified flaxseed meant for growing linseed oil. If you want your natural hair styling gel to be organic, you can even try for organic seeds at the store. This is the only ingredient you'll need. The supplies you'll need are a saucepan, a small mixing bowl, a wire sieve, a stovetop, water, and a clean container that holds a cup of liquid which also has a lid.

Make your natural hair styling gel. Put one cup of water in the pan with three tablespoons of flaxseed. Put the pan on medium heat until it comes to a boil, then remove from heat and let it stand for about 15 minutes or until it's the thickness you'd want in a natural hair styling gel. Then pour the gel into the mixing bowl through a sieve to remove seeds and let it completely cool off before pouring into its final container.

Store and use. Store this natural hair styling gel with its lid on to keep it from continuing to get thicker. You can use this natural hair styling gel on either wet or dry hair. Rub a small amount in your hands and apply. I always use mine up quickly and make a fresh batch weekly. You may want to store in refrigerator or check for freshness if yours will be around longer than that.
