Spiral wrapping your hair in rags is a great alternative to modern heat methods of curling your hair. Also known as rag curls, this method gives you the look of natural curls. Simply using an old T-shirt, along with no heat, allows you to wear a new style while causing no damage to your hair at all. Wrap your hair in rags before you go to bed and by morning, you'll have curls.

Instructions

    1

Prepare rag strips for your hair. It's best to use a large T-shirt. T-shirt material is easy to work with and helps to absorb excess water from your hair. Cut strips out of your T-shirt approximately 8 inches in length and 2 or 3 inches in width. Depending on the thickness of your hair you'll need anywhere from 10 to 30 rag strips.

    2

Prepare your hair. It is best to have freshly washed hair. Comb through your hair to ensure that there are no knots or tangles. Apply mousse evenly throughout all of your hair to help hold the curls. Towel dry all of the excess water from your hair, leaving your hair damp.

    3

Spiral wrap your hair in rag strips. Section off one piece of hair at a time. You can section off any amount of hair you'd like. Larger amounts of hair will give you a looser curl and smaller amounts of hair will give you perfect spirals. Once you have sectioned off a piece of hair, clip the rest of your hair back with a hair clip. Hold a rag strip horizontally at the bottom of your hair. Wrap your hair along the middle of the rag strip starting from the bottom of your hair. This is much like you would wrap your hair into a curling iron. Roll your hair up to about an inch away from your scalp and tie a single knot in the fabric to hold the curl in place. Continue wrapping sections until you have spiral wrapped your entire hair.

    4

Remove the rag strips from your hair the next morning Setting your hair in rags before bed is a great idea because by the time you wake up you hair will be dry and ready to remove the rags. Simply untie all of the knots and let your hair loose. Once you have removed all of the rags, start separating your curls. Do not brush your hair or that will remove all of your curls. Gently separate your sections of hair to create more strands of curls, creating a more natural full look.

    5

Apply a final touch of hairspray to your curls. Hold a can of hair spray 6 to 8 inches from your scalp and evenly spray over all of your hair. As your spraying your hair, use your free hand to scrunch your curls. This will ensure that your curls hold all day.
