Hair is one of the greatest items in an arsenal of accessories. You may have a cut that you love, but that doesn't mean that you have to wear it the same way every day. With the right products and tools, you can go from short to long, and long to spiked in one afternoon.

Instructions

Buns and Knots

    1

Comb hair and part the area(s) that will form the base of your buns and knots, securing each one into a ponytail with a hair elastic. This can include the front section and bang areas of the hair, and there can be as many knots as you like.

    2

Twist each ponytail until it coils in on itself, and shape around the base elastic pin in place as the twist forms into a bun. Secure ends under elastic, or pin one final time. Don't be afraid to use pins, as there's no thing as too many when it comes to securing your hair.

    3

Alternately, each ponytail can be split into unsecured smaller sections, which are then coiled, knotted, and pinned on top of each other for a more varied effect. You may find that these small subsections are easier to work with if you have thick hair.

    4

Give the back of your style a once-over with the hand mirror, and finish with a light holding spray, or touch up any knots as needed.

Faux-Hawks and Faux-Mullets

    5

Comb hair from the crown forward, and pin out of your eyes if needed.

    6

Separate horizontal sections of hair from ear to crown. Comb and pull straight back to the rear of your head, twisting at the ends to create spikes. Pin each in place.

    7

Style front of hair as a pompadour or spikes, and spike the ends of your pinned pieces with texturizing pomade. Finish with holding spray.

    8

Alternately, brush crown section so that it sits as usual, covering the pinned spots. Finish the sides with holding spray and the ends of your loose hair with a texturizing pomade.

Pin-Sculpting

    9

Separate your hair into sections depending on how you will wear your end look, and secure with elastics, releasing each section as you plan to work on it.

    10

Starting with the bang area, select a small amount of hair from one side. Pull the section further toward the side, fold the ends at a 45 degree angle and pin in place. Repeat with each small section of bang, layering sections and securing them onto the previous.

    11

Repeat with each section of loose hair, working in one direction per section to give hair a geometric shape. Finish with holding spray.
