Teenagers like to express their individuality and interests through hair and clothing. If your teen has thick hair, styling it can be a challenge. As thick hair takes more maintenance in terms of washing and drying, it can be daunting to manage on a daily basis. Thus, choose a look that makes the hair easier to style, while also being flattering.
Long and Layered
A long, layered haircut removes bulk from the hair and frames the face. The layers start at mid-neck and continue all the way down the hair. Layers are added throughout the hair to thin it out, and give it volume on the top. Thick, heavy hair can look flat towards the top of the head. Use hot rollers to create luscious waves or curls. Add a shine serum on top.
Half-Up
A funky hairstyle for teens with thick hair is half-up and half down. This is a modified version of an updo. This works well with thick hair as there is enough hair to leave on bottom without it looking thin and sparse. To create this style, the top part of the hair, which is one inch above the ears, is pulled back and secured with a decorative clip at the crown of the head. Pull the top of the hair so that it has a poof on top and isn't flat.
Bob
A classic teen hairstyle for thick hair is a bob. An alternative to a classic bob is a graduated bob. This is a more youthful version of the hairstyle. In this hairstyle, the back of the hair is cut shorter than the front, and tons of layers are cut into it. The hair then angles towards the front of the face to stop at the chin. Layers are cut throughout all of the hair to thin it out and allow it to lay nicely. Teens can use a flat-iron to wear a sleek, straight look. Another option is to use mousse in the hair and scrunch it for an easy, messy look.
