As a teen, you likely want stylish hair that's easy to manage. Funds and time can prevent you from getting lots of things done to your hair, so invest in a good haircut a few times a year. Find something that flatters your hair's texture and is easy to work with, whether you're lounging at home or spending the afternoon doing extra-curricular activities at school.

Guys

Guys usually experiment with long hair in high school. If your school has a rule against long hair, try growing it out to the jawbone, which is acceptable but still trendy. This works well with straight hair or hair with a medium wave or curl to it. This haircut has some layering, making it ideal for a wash-and-wear hairstyle. If you have wavy or curly hair and deal with frizz, work a bit of styling cream or shine serum through it while it's still damp to seal the hair's cuticle and keep your hair intact. Those who want shorter hair can opt for a side part and blunt layering throughout the hair. This works best on straight hair or hair with a minimal wave to it.

Short Hair for Girls

Short hair is easy to deal with and style on a daily basis. The only downside is that you can't put it up on a whim. Short hairstyles work best on those with straight or wavy hair. A quick way to update your short hair is to have it cut in an asymmetrical fashion. This adds depth without requiring a lot of work to style. Simply blow hair dry, flat iron (if needed) and go. Those with wavy hair can add texture to their hair with a styling cream and run over waves with a wide-barrel curling iron, which will add polish to waves without making them any tighter. Girls with short hair should put barrettes and headbands to good use. A deep side part accompanied by a headband looks great for a regular day at school or an evening event. For another style, keep the deep side part or do a middle part, gather two to three inches of hair in a bundle and gently twist on the side of the head. Secure with bobby pins or an ornate barrette or hair clip for a look that is fit for a school dance or scholarship dinner.

Long Hair for Girls

Girls with long hair have the most versatility when it comes to hairstyles. Long, loose braids work well for a simple day look. Split hair down the center and begin braids about two inches from the neck, securing at the ends with hair elastics. For another easy look, work styling cream through hair when it's damp. Part hair on whatever side is most comfortable, and start a French braid at the part, bringing it around the side of the head and stopping once you reach the nape of the neck. From here, you can pull hair into a ponytail or put it into a bun, leaving a few loose pieces. The look is young and fresh, so there's no need to keep every hair in place. For a dramatic look fit for a school dance or evening event, split hair down the middle and gather on each side. Secure at the back with a barrette, and tease hair at the crown for volume.
