Hairsetters, or hot rollers, add curl, volume, and sometimes shine to straight or wavy hair. Depending on your hair's thickness, length, and texture, and on the style you want to achieve, you may use small, medium, large, or jumbo rollers. Most hair stylists recommend ceramic rollers for minimum damage to the hair.

Using a hairsetter

Turn the hairsetter on so it can heat up while you prepare your hair. If there are multiple settings, choose the highest one if you have ceramic rollers and a medium-to-high setting for rollers made of other materials.
Set your pins or clips, comb and hair spray where you can easily reach them.
2Dry your hair if it is wet. Ideally, your hair will be clean and smooth before you begin. Hair that is not quite dry will result in a looser curl, which is desirable for a wavy look.
3Decide what kind of curls you want. Do you want tight spirals, loose waves, or a glamorous "done" look? For tighter curls, use smaller rollers, and for waves or volume, use large ones. For a polished, glam look, use a combination.
4Lift a section of hair with your comb. The section should be about " thick and as wide as a roller.
5Comb the hair straight, holding the end, and lightly spray the entire length.
6Roll the hair around a roller. Always roll under. If you just want to curl the ends of longer hair, roll it up an inch or two. If you want a curlier spiral look, roll it up to your scalp. Secure the roller with a pin or clip.
7Continue until all your hair is in rollers.
8Wait until the rollers have cooled completely, then release the pins or clips and unroll your hair. Do not comb or brush.
9Loosen the curls with your fingers and spray to hold.
