Long Hair Styles for Indians

Long hair styles are very flattering on Indian people. They have beautiful, dark, luxurious hair which shows off well when worn long. Simply parting it differently (down the middle vs. the side, or vice versa) can change your style. So can adding barrettes or elastics. No matter how it's styled, it's important to keep your healthy by getting a balanced diet containing amino acids, protein and B-vitamins. Drinking lots of water also keeps your hair looking its best.

A ponytails is a great way to style long hair. Not only does it keep it out of the way, but it adds style and flair. Instead of simply pulling it into an elastic, consider taking a small section of your hair from underneath the ponytail, and wrapping it around the elastic. You can also add a fabric wrap at the top of the pony to create a contrasting texture or color, or wear the tail off to the side, above or below your earlobe. Curl the hair coming out of the pony for a more dressed-up look. You can leave the curls loose or pin them around the elastic, creating an updo. Add pins or flowers if desired.

Long hair styles can work on Indians with straight, wavy or curly hair. If you have straight hair now, it's important to note that perming it to create curls will take more time and skill than if you permed thin, fine hair---and most Indians have coarser, thicker hair.

Considering coloring your hair to add texture and depth. Wavy hair is often the most desirable because it moves naturally and can become straighter or curlier with minimum effort. If you have wavy hair, use a hair brush and blow dryer to straighten it. If you want it curly, put a product like gel in the palm of your hand and scrunch it while wet. If you have naturally curly hair, wear it in a layered hairstyle and use a shine product to keep it looking its best. Consider the regular use of heat-activated hair conditioners to make it more manageable, but know that using them all the time may cause split ends or breakage.

Take the shape of your face into account when styling your long hair. Face shapes usually fall into one of the following categories: triangular, oval, square, round, oblong, heart-shaped, pear-shaped and diamond-shaped. People with round faces look best with layered hair styles, such as an angled bob and long bangs that are swept to the side. People with square, triangular, diamond- and pear-shaped faces look better in short styles. Oval faces look best with long hair that is wavy or straight. And bangs are a good idea if you have a heart-shaped face. Sweep them to the side or let them graze your eyebrows. Go for layered bobs and a choppy cut if you have an oblong shaped face.
