How to Put a Twist in Boys' Short Hair

Twists are a popular hairstyle for people with textured hair. Twists can function as a protective style for growing the hair long or as the beginning step toward growing dreadlocks. Twisted hairstyles work well for young boys because its a unisex style. Twists help maintain unruly hair and they hold up well during rough and tumble play. You can install two-strand twists in a boys hair whether it is short or long. He needs at least an inch of hair to wear a twisted hair style.

Instructions

Cleanse the boy's hair with a gentle shampoo. Twists hold and define more when the hair is cleaned as opposed to built up with product and perspiration. Follow up with a leave-in conditioner to restore his hairs moisture.

De-tangle the hair with a wide-tooth comb. Start at the ends of his hair, then slowly work your way up to the root. If his hair is shoulder length or longer, consider de-tangling in sections to minimize knots.

Use a comb to part a one-inch-wide row of hair in the back of your sons hair, then part a one-inch-wide section at the start of the row. Split the one-inch by one-inch section into two pieces and twist them around each other down the length of the hair, as if making a braid--but with two strands.

Coil the end of the twist around your finger to keep it from unraveling.

Continue making one-inch-wide parts across the first row to create twists, then part another one-inch-wide row above the first one and continue the process until you twist all of the hair.
