There is no way to go about the rockabilly style lightly. Rockabilly cuts are often very particular in how they are styled, making it difficult to get by with just a quick wash and blow dry. These styles can take few extra minutes to do because of the creams and other products they require. This also means that you may be spending a little more money on hair products.
Whether you choose to use the platinum blondes, bold blacks or shining reds that are also part of a rockabilly hairstyle, keeping up your hair color is important to this style.
Styling
The classic retro cut includes four-inch layers all around your head with the exception of the two pieces that are directly in front of your ear, these layers need to be an inch shorter. Also, many rockabilly styles include the classic Bettie Page bangs, blunt bangs that are a tad longer in the middle and shorter on the sides. Whether or not you have bangs, the layering is very important because it provides the perfect foundation to complete many different types of rockabilly styling.
For basic styling, you will need a hairspray that holds well, setting lotion or cream, a comb, bobby pins for setting curls, a soft bristle brush, and a hair elastic if your style of choice includes a ponytail. Before blow-drying, apply your setting cream all through your hair and dry hair from root to tip. Once the hair is dry and ready, you can pick from a variety of styles. The quickest style is to simply curl the ends of the hair directly inward before adding a few rhinestone barrettes for glamour. More complicated styles include pin curls and 'rooster volume' directly on top of the head. Whatever style you choose, make sure to execute it with care so that your own personal flair shows through.
Accessorize
Accessories are just as important as the execution of style for a rockabilly 'do. After you are finished styling you should add at least one hair accessory, whether it be a bandana, rhinestone barrette, vintage headband or flower clip. Accessories can be found at variety of stores. Just remember that the entire point of the rockabilly style is to stand out and display your loyalty to the style, so don't shy away from elaborate accessories.
