How to Make Curls With the Chi Flat Iron

The Chi Flat Iron is a ceramic hairstyling tool typically used to create salon-looking, silky straight hair. Yet by following the right steps, and with a little practice, it can also be create bouncy, soft curls. Before beginning, however, make sure your hair is clean and dry. Oily, dirty hair is often heavy, and thus have difficulties in holding the curls properly.

Instructions

Starting at the hairline, part the hair vertically down to the nape of the neck, and then horizontally from ear to ear. Pin up the section with a banana clip. Repeat for a total of four times.

Let down the back left section, and separate a part that measures one to two inches thick and wide. Pin the remaining hair back up out of the way.

Comb through this newly formed section to make sure it is free of tangles. Lightly mist it with a thermal-protection spray, which will strengthen the hair, as well as protect it from heat damage.

Place that section of hair between the Chi iron so it is at least one inch from the scalp. Close the iron on the hair, press down firmly and glide quickly in a downward motion until you reach halfway down the strand. Then turn the iron in an upward direction in a circular motion, wrapping the strand of hair around until the hair ends and the flat iron is free.

Release another section from bottom left section and repeat steps three and four. Continue these steps, completing the back twp sections first and the top two sections last.

Once complete, style the hair as desired, and finish by lightly spraying it with hairspray.
