Twisting a black woman's hair into a style can take a few hours to complete. However, the result is gorgeous and the style will last for weeks. Natural African-American hair can transform into practically any style. Although the texture of black hair varies by individual, almost every African-American woman can achieve a twist-type hair style without the use of many harmful products.

Shampoo and condition the hair, then apply a scalp protector and moisturizer. Do not rinse out the moisturizer and scalp protector. Blow the hair out using a handheld blow-dryer while combing the hair with a large-tooth comb. Complete this process until it is completely dry.
2Determine the pattern in which you'd like to style the hair. For example, if you want to twist the hair straight to the back of the head, make long parts from the beginning of the hairline to the back of the nape. The part should be no bigger than two inches across.
3Section the hair that is not included in the part away from the parted hair by using hair clips or a rubber band. Starting at the hairline, separate two small equal parts of hair. Using your thumb and pointer fingers, firmly start to twist the hair in a clockwise overlapping method. As you're twisting the hair, continue to grab the free hair in the part as if you were French braiding.
4Continue steps 2 and 3 until all the hair has been twisted. Use a holding spray to hold the twists in place. Style the twisted hair as you wish.
