How to Make a Twisty Bun for Short Hair

Although people associate buns with long, flowing ponytails, you can accomplish this hairstyle even on someone with short hair. You can create a beautiful twisted bun with a rope braid and some hair pins as long as the subject has enough hair to make a short ponytail. Wear this attractive, braided bun to keep hair up for a ballet performance or as a proper look for a formal occasion.

Instructions

Dampen the hair slightly by misting it with the spray bottle. This will allow the hair to stay together better and will prevent stray hairs.

Make a ponytail with the hair and secure it with the hair bands. The base of the ponytail will serve as an anchor point for the top of the bun.

Separate the hair into two equal portions, splitting the ponytail down its left-right center line.

Twist the two portions of hair around each other to create a rope braid.

Secure the end of the braid with another hair band.

Fold the end of the braid under the braid itself and up against the base of the ponytail to create a braided bun.

Hold the bun in place using hair pins. Use hair pins the same color as the hair to make the pins less noticeable.

Spray the bun with hair spray to prevent hairs from coming free and making the bun look messy.
