A professional roller-set can cost a small fortune at a salon, and usually only lasts for a few days. With the aid of rollers and a proper setting product, you can create long lasting curls. Fly away hair, loose strands of hair poking out and uneven curls tend to occur with amateurs attempting roller-sets.The salon method of tucking curls with a rat tail comb is key to mastering professional looking curls. Even, professional curls, can happen with just a few tips and pointers to get you started.
Instructions
- 1
Apply a roller setting product to the hair. Professionals will not typically roller-set on hair without some sort of styling product to aid in curling. Roller setting products come in either a spray or lotion. For fine hair, a spray is best, for more coarse hair, a cream will work better than a spray at softening and defining curls.
2Comb the hair. This will distribute the product evenly and ensure that the curls set well during the time they are in the rollers.
3Part the hair the way your want it to fall. This way you can add the rollers in tight, without having to worry about ruining them when you make your part during styling. The curls will fall less awkwardly for hair that is already parted before rolling.
4Take 2-inch wide sections of hair or larger (no more than 2.5 inches wide) from the top half of the hair, and wrap them in the larger rollers in the roller set. Make sure to use a rat tail comb to gently tuck the ends into the roller. This will result in a more even curl.
5Wrap the lower half of the hair around the smaller rollers in the set. Make sure the hair is no more than an inch wide, so that the curls are even and tight. Remember to use the rat tail comb to tuck the ends in.
6Release the curls and style as desired after waiting the allotted time (usually 30 minutes or more depending on your hair type) for the curls to set.
