Layered Rock Hairstyles

Rock and roll is an often edgy form of music that is complimented by the edginess of the style that goes with it. Dark colors, rich fabrics and shocking looks are typical rock styles. A person's hair has a lot to do with this style and many rock styles are layered. No matter what length of hair you have, you can find a layered hairstyle that will work for you.

An asymmetric hairstyle is very common in the rock-and-roll culture. This is when the hair on one side of the head is not the same length as hair on the other side. This can be either very dramatic or subtle. For example, some people will nearly shave one side of their head and leave the other a longer length. The more asymmetric the hairstyle is, the more rock and roll.

Long layered hair should always have as much volume as possible. This can be done by using lots of hairspray and the hair ratting technique. Also, if hair is straightened at the root and pulled straight upward, this gives it volume as well. Some long styles include short in the front and long in the back. It looks a little bit like the hairstyle called the mullet. However, having choppy layers is a rock hairstyle as well. Long hair that is curly or wavy can also be done in layers. These layers are primarily to lighten the hair and create more volume in the hair so it is light, bouncy and big.

Short hair is done in many different ways to get a rock hair style. One is to have a razored bob. This is where the razor is used to slice the hair into different, defined layers. This type of hairstyle typically has to be straightened to get the full effect. Thicker up top and thinner at the bottom is a very typical short hairstyle. To make short layered cuts even more dramatic, bangs are almost always a part of the cut. This shadows the eyes and makes them appear darker.

Do not underestimate the effect of combing layered hair forward. This is something you can do with layered hair for a new look. If the top layers are short enough, make your hair into super side-swept bangs. Or comb the layers from back to front. Only the top layers will go unless you have short layered hair to being with.
