No matter your face shape---oval, round, square, or heart---you can find a hairstyle that looks good and brings out your best features. Heart-shaped faces are usually characterized by wide foreheads and cheekbones, accompanied by a pointed chin. Heart-shaped faces do best with hairstyles that balance the width of forehead and cheekbones or styles that draw attention away from the prominent chin. Regardless of recommendations, however, you should always choose a style that personally appeals.
Boy Cut
Boy-cuts work well for shorter, thin hair; the boy-cut is formed by trimming the hair short at the sides and leaving it slightly longer at the top and front. This creates bangs that balance a thick brow line, as well as draw attention to the eyes and away from the chin. To create this look, ask your hairdresser to trim the hair on the sides of your head to about a half an inch in length. The hair should begin to gradually get longer above the ear line until it's about two inches in length at the top of your head. This will create bangs that hang down about two inches to frame your face and bring attention to your eyes. The bangs can be worn straight down or swept off to one side of your forehead and finished with a bit of medium hold hairspray to frame the face. Alternatively, you can wear this style by using a headband or small hair clips to hold the bangs away from your face.
Bob Cut
A bob-cut is a style which works well with thin, medium length hair; with the body of the hair just above the shoulders and straight cut bangs at the brow line. This style works well for a heart-shaped facial structure because the bangs balance out the wide forehead. If you want this style, ask your hairdresser to cut your hair straight across above your shoulders so the clean cut draws attention away from your chin. Next, ask for straight cut bangs just above your brow bone. The combination of the two lengths will draw attention to softer features, such as your eyes and lips. The bob-cut is simple to style, requiring only a brush to smooth the surface and a bit of relaxed hold hairspray to keep the hair from becoming unruly. Alternatively, the longer hair can be pulled back into a smoothed ponytail, leaving just the bangs to frame the face.
Long and Layered
If you want to wear longer hair with a heart-shaped face, a layered cut with long, wispy bangs can work to balance the wideness of your forehead with your chin. To achieve this style, ask your hairdresser to layer the length of your hair; layering thin hair gives it the illusion of volume and body. Next, ask for long bangs cut chin length and wear them swept to one side, away from the face, eyes and chin. To wear this style simply run a brush over your hair to smooth it before putting a dollop of medium hold mousse in one hand. Rub your hands together to evenly disperse the mousse, then bend at the waist and flip your hair forward. Work the mousse into the roots of your hair and allow it to dry before flipping your hair back and standing upright. Your hair will now be volumized and the layering accentuated. Run a brush lightly over it once to smooth any stray hairs.
