How to Make Embellished Bobby Pins

Bobby pins are mostly practical. They keep unruly hair out of faces or a chignon in place. They even pin down other hair accessories, such as a flower or ribbon. While a boring black or brown bobby pin is not much of an aesthetic accessory, a few simple embellishments can make the humble bobby pin a pretty hair ornament in its own right. An embellished bobby pin can even double as a cute broach to slide over the collar of a T-shirt or the edge of a shirt pocket.

Instructions

Cut a piece of ribbon, around three inches long, then loop the ends of the ribbon back across the center of the ribbon in an "X" shape, forming a bow. Place a dot of hot glue between each layer of ribbon, and then on the end of a bobby pin, gluing the ribbon down. Press down with the end of a skewer to avoid burning your fingers on the glue.

Place a dot of hot glue on the end of a bobby pin, then pick up a rhinestone with the tweezers and place it on the hot glue, pressing it down. Repeat along the entire length of the bobby pin, alternating colors if you wish, or making a uniform color bobby pin.

Place a dot of hot glue on the end of a bobby pin, then press a button onto the glue to fix it to the end of the bobby pin. If the button has holes in it, press it with the skewer to avoid burning your fingers on any hot glue that comes through the holes when you press it.

Combine the embellishments: glue a bow onto a bobby pin, then a rhinestone or button on top of the bow's center. Or glue on a button, then follow it with a line of rhinestones.
