Retro Bollywood Hairstyles

Bollywood is known around the world for its theatricals, musical inspired films and its performances, this is why it is no surprise that the hairstyles should be any different. The most common look of a Bollywood hairstyle is dark and long flowing hair. However over the years, their hairstyles have taken on a more retro and updated style emulating Hollywood.

The most commonly used Bollywood hairstyle is the bun. The bun is created by pulling together all the hair in to a ponytail. The hair is then twisted around the hand and with a hairband to create a round ball with the hair without any free hair falling out. The retro version of this is to plait the hair first and then pulling it in to a bun.

The boy cut is regarded as a retro Bollywood look as it opposes the previous Asian style of long and flowing hair. The celebrity look that Bollywood has gone for its the Rihanna crop. An amalgamation of this is Victoria Beckham's hair crop, which has been adopted by Bollywood actress Bipasha Basu.

The men of Bollywood have also adopted a more retro hairstyle. The men have swapped with the women of Bollywood and adopted long hair. This trend was made popular by Bollywood actor John Abraham. Before this, the long hair trend was restricted to period Bollywood dramas. Since then this retro look has been adapted with accessories, such as hair bands and plaits, to tidy the hair up.

Retro styles are also created through keeping with the traditional look and adding a special twist to the creations. The looks are usually attempted with long hair. This is seldom left open but is tied up in a type of bun or half pony. This hair decorated with several hair jewels and sparkling accessories. The final ingredient is something that contrasts the whole look. This could be in the style of a thick full fringe or hair extensions used to create a separate design on top of the earlier look.
