How to Make Damaged Hair Look Healthy

Heat and dyes can do a lot of damage to your hair, creating dead and split ends, making your hair look unhealthy. Follow these instructions to create the illusion of healthy hair.

Use a deep conditioning system for your hair. Frederic Fekkai makes a very good deep conditioner. If you're on a budget, try something like Pantene Pro-V deep conditioner from the drug store. This will restore a lot of moisture to hair creating a silky, shiny and healthy look. Deep conditioners are generally applied to damp hair and left in for 15-30 minutes, but be sure to read the instructions on the label.

Make sure you use a product to protect your hair from the heat if you will be using a blow dryer. Generously spritz it into damp hair before blow drying. Products such as VO5 heat defense is available at most drug stores and is very affordable.

Style your hair as usual once it is dry. Straightening definitely damages hair, but it also straightens out split ends, broken hairs and frizz giving the illusion of healthier hair.

Use a leave-in conditioner to make your hair look shiny and healthy. There are a lot out there and not all are equal. If you're going to a drug store to find something that is very affordable, try John Frieda's leave-in conditioner. Most other ones seem to leave hair feeling the same as before it was used. If you're going the pricier route, Sephora has a good array of nice leave-in conditioners.

Cut your hair regularly to get rid of split and dead ends you get from styling. In the meantime, follow these instructions you'll fool almost anyone into thinking you have healthy hair.
