How to Make Fake Dreads

Dreadlocks, often referred to as dreads, are locks of hair that have been manipulated to create a matted look. It can take anywhere from three to six months after creating dreadlocks in natural hair for them to take on the traditional look of a dread. If you dont have three to six months to create dreads, or you only want temporary ones, you can make fake dreads. Fake dreads tend to not look as good as authentic dreads.

Instructions

    1

Lay your synthetic hair on a flat surface where there is plenty of light. Determine how to attach the dreads to your head. You can clip the hair in like a weave, or you can use a regular wig.

    2

Comb the synthetic hair with a wide tooth comb and separate into sections. The size of each section will depend on how thick you want the individual dreads. For thick dreads, use large sections. For thinner dreads, use smaller sections.

    3

Place your small tooth comb at the end of a section of hair and comb backwards, using a quick motion. Start at the bottom of the hair and work toward the top. Repeat until all of the synthetic hair is back combed.

    4

Take the end of one of the hair sections that has been back combed and place it between both of your palms. Move your palms back and forth while you work your way up the hair. Repeat on each section. This will give the dread the popular cylinder shape.

    5

Set the hairdryer to a low flow with high heat. Heat each individual dread to set it. Place your new dreads into your hair and enjoy.
