Women and teens have a variety of hairstyles to choose from, which should be tailored to flatter their individual features. Consider face shape before getting a new haircut; your stylist should be able to advise you on what cut would be best. When it comes to choosing a hairstyle, an everyday look should be simple to maintain. For special occasions, expect to invest a little bit more time in doing your hair.
Long Hair
"Cosmopolitan" magazine suggests two different long hair looks. The "flipped out" can be achieved by smoothing the top of the hair while keeping the bottom messy. Start with a large round brush and a blow-dryer, straightening the hair from roots to your chin. For the bottom part of the hair, use a spray gel and twist small pieces around your fingers while blow-drying. This will keep the tips texturized.
For the second look, "dangerous waves," you will need curl-enhancing mousse. Apply it to damp hair, then tousle your roots as you blow-dry. Immediately afterward, divide your warm hair into four braided sections. After the braids cool, undo them and turn your head over to shake out your long waves.
Short Hair
For women and girls with short hair, "Elle" magazine gives several style examples from celebrities. Victoria Beckham wears the pixie cut, a very short bob that is tousled with cream or gel. The ends are messy and do not lay flat against the head. This can be worn with or without a headband.
A blunt cut suits women with straight, short hair, and can be seen on actress Gwyneth Paltrow. The cut angles downward, and is shorter at the back than in the front. Blow-dry and straighten hair, then wear with a center part.
Special Occasion
For a special night out, try what "Seventeen" magazine calls the "fancy ponytail." This look would suit a teenager going to the prom or a woman going out on a date. Begin by curling small sections of your hair with a vertically held curling iron, rolling the iron away from your face. If you already have curly hair, use a cream to reduce frizz, then use a curling iron for touch-ups if needed. Tease hair at the crown, brushing down toward the roots. Spray each small section with hairspray to maintain volume. Then comb the top back carefully to smooth out tangles. Collect all of the hair into a low side ponytail, just behind your ear, holding it in place with a clear elastic band. Cover the band with a ribbon if desired. Finish the look by pulling out a few loose strands around your face.
