Achieving tight curls when you have long hair can be difficult. Properly preparing your hair and having patience when using rollers will make curls stay tight longer. For tight curls, purchase a hot roller set intended for such a style, which will come with all thin rollers. These can be purchased a beauty supply store or specialty beauty store such as Ulta.

Instructions

Shampoo and conditioning

    1

Shampoo and condition hair using a volumizing shampoo and conditioner, wash and condition your hair. Work the shampoo into your roots, and focus on the bottom half of your hair the conditioner.

    2

Blot your hair with the towel instead of rubbing it dry. Allow hair to air dry until it is damp, and spray a heat protecting spray through your hair. Finish drying your hair completely with the blow dryer. Only finger style your hair. Do not use a comb or brush.

    3

Section off hair with your comb.into six even parts. The easiest way to do this is to split hair into two sections at the crown, a section on either side of your head, and two sections at the back. Secure each section with a hair clip or elastic band.

    4

Starting with a crown section, further divide your hair into two to four separate groups of hair, depending on your hair's thickness. Mist one small section with hairspray and then wind your small section tightly, starting at the hair ends and turning toward the root, around a thin roller. Secure the roller with the clip or pins that came with your hot-roller set. Repeat this step until all your rollers are in use.

    5

Mist hair with hair spray and allow rollers to do their job for anywhere from 20 to 30 minutes. Mist your hair one last time, and use the dryer to blow your set hair with the dryer on a very low setting until your hair is completely dry.

    6

Remove the rollers from your hair.

    7

Mist with hair spray. If you like a softer look, gently shake curls out (this will simply separate them, not loosen the curl). For tight, polished, curls leave your hair as is.
