There are several different ways individuals with short hairstyles can style their hair. One of the quicker, easier ways to style short hair is to spike their hair. This look can be conservative, such as spiking only the front of the hair. You can also spike all of your hair in order to create a more wild look. Creating a spiked hairstyle is something that can be achieved in a short amount of time after you get out of the shower.

Decide if you would like your spiked hair to look shiny or matte (dull). Your choice of product will depend on the look you want. Those who want a shiny look should use a medium hold hair gel. If you want your spiked hair to look matte, use a medium hold hair styling paste.
2Wet your hair evenly and towel dry to remove excess water. Your hair should be wet but not soaked when you begin.
3Place a nickel-sized amount of hair product in your hands and rub your hands together to coat with the product.
4Work your hands throughout your hair to evenly distribute the product. If you are spiking your hair primarily in the front, you should focus on that area in the beginning to ensure that you use enough product.
5Stand in front of a mirror and use the tips of your fingers to pull the ends of your hair upward. Apply additional product if necessary.
6Mist lightly with a light- to medium-hold hair spay to keep the spikes from moving if you wish. You can use hair spray whether you are trying to achieve a shiny or matte hair style as it will not effect the look as long as you mist sparingly.
