There are several female hairstyles that are specifically linked to the "emo" fashion or that complement the fashion well. Emo cuts work best when the hair is dyed black or streaked with black coloring.

Short, Spiky Look

This look showcases the face. The hair should be cut short (only about 2 inches long) so that, when hair gel is applied, it can be molded into short, stiff spikes or neatly sculpted clumps all over the head.

Bang and Spikes

Another spiky emo look can be acquired by cutting all the hair short (again, only about 2 inches long), but leaving the bangs long, allowing them to hang over the eyes. This is a very common emo look.

Long, Straight Hair

Still another emo-popular hairstyle is that of long, straight tresses. This hairstyle usually only requires the split ends to be cut, and bangs are optional.

Long, Layered Stands

This look is popular with the emo style because it enables the holder to hide her face simply by looking down. The hair should be cut in long layers, the shortest of which should be just below the chin.

Short Bangs, Short Hair

Still another great emo haircut is one that is short all the way around. This enables the wearer to either spike all the tresses with hair gel or spike only the back of the hair and leave the bands in a straight line across the forehead.

Long Bangs, Medium Hair

Arguably the most popular emo haircut, this one requires the hair to be slightly longer in the front than it is in the back, but the hair in the back should still be at least 6 inches long. This cut is similar to an elongated bob.
