How to Spike Wavy Hair

Achieving a straight, spiky hairstyle is as simple as running some light hair gel through the hair with a comb for some. However, for those with wavy hair a spiky hairstyle might seem unattainable. Wavy hair often frays out and goes back to normal after application of hair gel in an attempt to achieve a spiky hairstyle. With correct styling procedures you can spike wavy hair to achieve this hairstyle. However, like any style that relies upon heavy use of hair gel, once the hair is exposed to high heat or moisture, the style will be lost.

Instructions

Shampoo and condition the hair as normal and allow to air-dry; as an alternative you can use a blow dryer to dry the hair completely.

Put a dollop of extra firm hold hair gel in the palm of your hand and rub your hands together to evenly disperse it over both hands.

Run the hands through the hair, coating it in a generous amount of hair gel.

Quickly flip the head upside down and comb the hair against its natural pattern, so spikes straight up. Continue running the comb through the hair in this pattern all over the head until the hair gel has dried.

Spray the spiked hair with form hold hair spray; this will hold the spiked hair straight upwards throughout the day.
