How to Spike Your Hair With Gelatin

Short, spiky hair is popular among both men and women. Using gelatin, or gel, in your hair is one of many ways to create the spikes you see on models in magazines. Gel makes hair stiff, so it holds its shape. It also gives your hair a "wet look," maintaining shine. According to SalonWeb, there are different gel categories ranging from stringing gels to smoothing gels. It's important to choose spiking gel for maximum hold and height.

Instructions

Wet your hair. Towel dry your wet hair so it's damp but not soaked. You can do this in the sink or shower.

Squeeze a dime-size spot of gel into the palm of your hand and rub your hands together. Don't overuse the product.

Apply the gel. Run your hands through your hair from the roots to the ends. Make sure you are distributing the product evenly throughout your hair. If you want your hair to have little movement, choose a maximum hold gel.

Blow dry. A quick shot of hot air from the blow dryer sets your spikes quickly. You don't need to spend hours drying your hair. Just run the dryer around your head a few times. The gel will dry quicker.
