Short Feathery Hairstyles

Short, feathery hairstyles were a look of the '70s. But with a modern-day twist, they can be just as fresh now as they were then. Short hair is an easy option for women who don't have a lot of time to spend maintaining and styling their hair, and the feathered option provides a style with little fuss.

The short, feathery pixie style is suitable for all different face shapes and accents facial features. The front of the hair is left longer while the top and back of the hair are shorter. Depending on how adventurous you want your look, you can ask your stylist to cut shorter layers or fewer, longer layers. Though this style is short, it can still be styled to look chic and sexy with the use of product or a headband. If you have longer layers in front, you can sweep these off to the side for yet a different look.

Just because your hair is short doesn't mean you can't add a little curl to boost volume and playfulness. Hair must be almost chin length with feathered layers. Start by rubbing mousse into damp hair, then dry. Use a small-barreled curling iron to curl only the bottom of hair. Run your fingers through for a slightly tousled look.

Nothing says feathered like the flipped-out Farrah Fawcett styles of the '70s. Styling depends on how short your hair is. If all-over length is about an inch or two, you can use product and a blow-dryer to style hair away from the head. If your bangs or all of your hair is longer, dry hair with round brush, creating large, outward-facing curls that "flip out" from the head. You can also use a wide-barreled curling iron on dry hair.
