The 1960s Hairstyles for Men

From The Beatles to Bob Marley, the psychedelic 1960s marked a time of music, culture, and radical change. The hairstyles weren't far behind. From full-bang longer cuts for men to the always-conservative crew cut, men had a variety of styles to choose from.

The 1960s still had a taste of conservativeness, so crew cuts were often seen. A crew cut has a short top and sides; it can either be gelled on top to create a very short spiked look or it can be left to lay naturally.

Think Elvis Presley's medium-length style. This style was very popular during the 1960s. The hairstyle was usually styled with a softer styling product, such as pomade versus gel. The hairstyle was often parted to the side and pushed back slightly. The back was combed down.

Different longer hairstyles were popular in the 1960s. From the sleek look of a blunt one-length style, such as that preferred by The Beatles, to the more layered shag 'do of early Ringo Starr, longer hair became more popular during the late 1960s and into the 1970s.

Curly longer 'dos also worked in the 1960s and were mostly done in a shaggy layered style that was shorter on top and toward the face and gained length toward the back of the head.
