How to Make Nappy Dull Hair Straight and Shiny

Sometimes hair can be hard to manage when we neglect it. Many times products that are marketed to us are not made for our texture hair and cause significant damage to the overall look of the hair. The following article is one of just a few that will help you take care of your hair. This particular article will focus on flat ironing.

Instructions

Always flat iron your hair with care. Over flattening can cause significant damage to your hair in the long run. I only flat iron once a week and I try my best to go longer than that. The best tool in your flat iron arcenal is your flat iron. Not all flat irons are created equally. I use the Kiyoseki because it has ceramic metal irons that do not burn your hair. There are many flat irons out there that have similar boards.

Before you begin flat ironing first make sure that your hair is completely dry. I typically blow dry my hair if it is wet before flat ironing or let it air dry.

Once your hair is dry throughout, part your hair into sections. I usually start at the bottom back of my hair and part one inch sections to flat iron. Clip back the portions of your hair that are not being ironed so that they don't get in the way while you are working.

Spray a heat protector on your hair prior to ironing. I do this on each section that I part. So right before you iron that piece spray it with heat protector. Do not apply to the entire hair instead do it in sections. I use Ion heat protector as well as Luster's Pink Glosser for the shine.

When ironing your hair do not clamp down hard on your hair. You will end up frying your hair. Instead lightly clamp down on the hair and go down slowly to the end of the hair. If you would like a slight curl simply turn the flat iron as you go through the hair. Go through that one section more than one time if needed.

Repeat each step through each section of hair. If you put too much hair in each section then your hair may not be has straight as you desire. It usually takes me about an hour and a half to completely flat iron my hair because I do it in small parts.

Lastly remember that if you hair is not naturally straight that humidity will cause it to frizz. I usually add glosser at the end to keep it from frizzing up. I use Luster's Pink Glosser (it can be applied after or during the flat ironing process, whichever you prefer). Kiyoseki also makes its own line of mists for this reason.
