How to Spiral Curl Short Hair

If you have hort hair you may find it difficult to spiral curl it using traditional styling implements such as curling irons or rollers. You can, however, create nice, lasting, spiral curls using everyday household items.

Instructions

Wash your hair as you normally would.

Pat hair dry with a towel so that it is still very wet but not dripping. Drape a towel over your shoulders.

Comb or brush hair until it is free of tangles.

Section off a strand of hair, working from the top of your head. The amount of hair you grab will determine how tight your curls are. For looser curls, include more hair.

Comb the strand from root to tip until smooth.

Smooth a dab of hair gel or mousse along the length of the hair strand.

Hold the strand of hair by the end and wind it around the pen, straw, or item you chose to use as a styling implement.

Place the end of your styling implement against your scalp.

Slide the hair strand down the length of the implement toward your scalp.

Remove the styling implement from the center of the now-wound hair strand while holding the strand against the scalp and set it aside.

Secure hair strand using two bobby pins in a cross pattern (one positioned up and down, the other postioned side to side).

Repeat this process from the top of your head to the bottom until all hair is secure.

Allow hair to dry naturally or use a hair dryer. If you use a dryer, keep the air pressure on a lighter setting.

Spray hair lightly with hair spray to add stability to curls. If your gel or mousse has sufficient hold, you need not use the hairspray at this point.

Remove bobby pins from the hair, starting from the bottom of the scalp, working up.

Allow curls to fall naturally. It may take a couple of moments for them to settle.

Spray hair lightly with hairspray, if desired, to help maintain the hold of the curls. Do not saturate the hair, as curls will fall.
