How to Make Twisted Boutique Hair Bows

Twisted boutique hair bows can be a little pricey. One reason is because of the way the ribbons are made. Twisted, or spiraled, ribbons are called korker ribbons. To get these ribbons into a spiral they need to be "baked." Although it can be a little time consuming, you can easily make your own twisted hair bows inexpensively. One of the best parts of making your own hair bows is that you can pick and choose the colors of the ribbons that you want to use.

Instructions

    1

Preheat your oven to 275 degrees Fahrenheit.

    2

Secure the first ribbon to the top of the dowel with a clothespin.

    3

Turn the dowel clockwise until the ribbon is in a tight spiral going down the dowel. Use a second clothespins to secure the ribbon to the bottom of the dowel.

    4

Repeat steps 2 and 3 with as many ribbons in as many different colors as you'd like. Keep in mind that it takes about 30 ribbons to complete one hair bow.

    5

Put all of the dowels on a cookie sheet. Place the cookie sheet in the oven and "bake" the ribbons for 25 minutes. When finished, remove the cookie sheet from the oven and allow the dowels to cool for 10 minutes.

    6

Remove the clothespins and carefully slide the ribbons from the dowels.

    7

Put a piece of elastic cord on a table. Place 30 ribbons on top of the cord.

    8

Pull the cord up over the sides of the ribbons. Tie into a double-knot. You'll notice that the twisted ribbons will look like a pom-pom. Trim any elastic string that can be seen.

    9

Slide a barrette through the cord where the double-knot was tied. Clip the twisted hair bow into any hairstyle.
