The faux hawk is a style first popularized by David Beckham. It is characterized by hair standing on end in the tradition of the Mohawk, however, it is shorter and less defined than a traditional Mohawk haircut. It is possible however, to get a faux hawk with curly hair if you know the right steps. Read on to learn how to style a faux hawk with curly hair.

Shampoo the hair. Use a dime-size amount of conditioner just to detangle the hair and then rinse. Towel dry the hair and put a quarter size amount of texturizing cream or gel into one palm. Rub it through both hands and run it through the hair. Comb through evenly with your fingers, with the majority of the cream concentrated on the longer top section of the hair.
2Blow-dry the hair. Hold the blow-dryer in one hand, and pull the hair straight up and away from the scalp with the other while you focus the hot air onto the hair. Try to pull the hair and straighten as you blow-dry. Pull the hair in the direction that you want to wear the hair. Dry the hair completely. There will still be some curl in the hair at this point.
3Use a preheated flat iron to further straighten the hair following the blow-dry. Use a haircutting comb to take half inch sections from the hair. Using a small flat iron, grip the hair approximately one eighth of an inch from the scalp. Run the flat iron upward or in the direction you would like the individual section to fall. If hair is too soft and falls flat, apply some medium hold hairspray to the section and dry with the blow-dryer while "messing" or "roughing" up the hair. Straighten the whole head by taking half inch sections and straightening as stated above.
4Follow the finished hairstyle with hairspray. Pull the hair in the direction you would like it to fall (usually up and messy for a faux hawk). Follow with a finishing spray and use your fingers to pull on individual sections to create a textured "piecy" look.
