Sleek hair is a great alternative to the flowing seductive look. It's equal in sexiness and brings attention to the face, since there is little distraction caused by the hair. Sleek hair, whether worn up or down, brings attention to your features. This is an optimal look to make an impression, whether at the office or for a night out on the town.
Basics
For a complete sleek look, a good cut is key. Make an appointment with a stylist and decide if you want to go all out with long layers and bangs that can be sculpted into different looks or simply use product to produce different looks. Make sure to let your stylist know that you want to be able to style your hair in sleek looks but would also like the versatility to wear it natural. As far as tools, depending on the style you want you'll need an arsenal of leave-in conditioner, gel, pomade, heat protectant spray as well as finishing spray. In addition you'll want some elastic bands and bobby pins. A good blow-dryer and ceramic flat iron are also necessary to pull off this look.
Style and Effects
There are many looks you can create, but the basic sleek look consists of stick-straight hair and a dramatic part or bangs. After washing and drying hair, apply some leave-in conditioner and blow-dry hair straight. Do not flip hair over while drying, as this will cause unwanted volume. Once hair is completely dry, section the bottom layer of hair off and use a fine tooth comb, followed by a flat iron to iron hair in 1-inch sections. Make sure to spray sectioned off pieces with heat protectant spray before flat ironing and pull the flat iron straight out, parallel to the head and straight up for higher pieces, this will create the flattest look possible. Follow with finishing hairspray after to keep hair smooth and straight. Continue until all sections are completely straight. If you have bangs, flat iron them straight down so they fall into your eyes for shorter bangs or sweep to the side for longer bangs. Use a few drops of pomade, rub hands together and smooth all over hair to tame any flyaways. If you do not have bangs you can leave hair as is and use your comb to define a dramatic middle or side part. For an updo, keep side part and pull hair back into a tight ponytail in the middle portion of the head, not too high. Use an elastic band to secure the ponytail. Twist and wrap the ponytail around to create a tight bun and secure ends in with tiny bobby pins. Tame flyaways with gel or pomade. Finish with finishing spray.
