Roller-Set Hairstyles

With so many types of rollers available, you can created numerous hairstyles. Hair can be roller set wet or dry. The larger the roller, the looser your curl will be, and small rollers will give you a tighter curl. Roller setting is a healthy styling option because you can avoid using direct heat for a prolonged amount of time.

Spiral Curls

Spiral curls are elongated curls that resemble a corkscrew. Spiral curls are done on both long and short hair. This style works best as a wet set on freshly washed and conditioned hair. Add a small amount of leave-in conditioner to your hair and detangle. Use spiral rollers or long flexible rollers, hold the roller vertically and start rolling your hair around the roller from the bottom, working your way to the top. Allow your hair to air dry or sit under a warm hooded dryer. Once your hair is completely dry and cool, remove the rollers. You can wear your spiral curls just the way they are for a Shirley Temple look, or separate the curls to make them fuller. As the spiral curls begin to loosen and fall, you can pull your hair up with a clip for a cute up-do.

Long Hair Roller Set

With long hair you can create big, soft and romantic curls with a roller set. For a wet set, begin with freshly washed and conditioner hair. After you detangle your hair, mist it with a setting lotion. Make a center part, using the hair on each side of the part, wrap your hair downward around a magnetic roller and secure it with a clip. Keep your hair wet, and roll the rest of your hair by wrapping the hair upward around the roller. Allow your hair to dry completely before removing your rollers. Your big curls will cascade down over your shoulders and last for two to three days.

Short Bouncy Curls

You can get quick bouncy curls on short hair with hot rollers. The best way to place the rollers is in a Mohawk pattern. Section your hair as if you were doing a Mohawk style, and roll your hair straight back beginning with the center section of hair. Roll the hair on the sides going back too. Secure the hot rollers with the clamp right on top of the hair to create the most volume.

Vintage 1940s Hair

A popular style from the 1940s is the top reverse roll. To create this look, roll your hair on hot rollers going away from your face. Remove the rollers after they have cooled. Part a rectangle in the front of your head by making a part on each side of your head and then a third part to connect them. Using a large paddle brush, brush the rectangle section of hair forward and put bobby pins on both sides of the section. Roll your hair back into a roll, keeping the ends inside, and secure the roll with bobby pins. Fluff the rest of your curls with your fingers.
