Steps for Punk Hairstyles

Punk hairstyles are always the most unconventional yet trendiest styles and are certainly not the normal, everyday hairstyles people are used to seeing. Punk hairstyles first became popular in the mid-70s, with famous musical influences such as The Rolling Stones, The Sex Pistols and The Saints. The punk hairstyles are characterized by bright colors and asymmetrical cuts. If you want a change and like the punk look, the three most popular punk hairstyles you should consider are the skate punk hairstyle, the mohawk hairstyle and the pop punk hairstyle.

Instructions

Cut hair into a short bob-length haircut. The shorter the bob, the easier it is to achieve this hairstyle.

Squeeze a small amount of hair gel into your hand and rub it between your hands until your hands are both coated.

Run your hands through your hair to coat the hair in gel.

Twist sections of hair up into spikes, coating the tips in gel so they stick straight up and do not fall over.

Spray over the entire hairstyle with a light coat of hairspray to keep in place.

Cut hair into a mohawk cut, with the sides cropped closely to the head and a strip of hair left down the middle of the head. You can leave the mohawk section as long or short as you want, but the longer it is the more options you have for styling.

Squeeze a small amount of hair gel into your hand and rub it between your hands until your hands are both coated.

Run your hands through the mohawk section of your hair to coat the hair in gel.

Style the mohawk by putting it in between both hands and moving hands in an inward and upward motion.

Spray over the entire hairstyle with a light coat of hairspray to keep in place.

Cut hair into a longer layered cut.

Dye two or three sections of hair in a bright color, like pink or fire engine red. If you would rather not put permanent color in your hair you can always use colored clip-in extensions instead.

Use a hair straightener through hair for the true pop punk hairstyle. Think celebrities like Avril Lavigne and Pink, who often wear this type of hairstyle. Work in sections through your hair with the heated hair straightener tool, placing one section at a time in between the paddles of the hair straightener and gently gliding the straightener down the section of hair all the way to the ends. Do this throughout your entire hair for a smooth, finished look.
