How to Place Curlers in Hair

Many women like to experiment with different hairstyles. Often times, luxurious looking curly hair is the central desire. If you weren't born with natural curls, it takes minimal effort to fake it. Curlers can give you the luxurious curls that you long for in only a matter of time. While putting curlers into your hair is a simple process, it is essential that you follow certain steps in order to maximize your results. After all, if you want to fake it, you've got to fake it right.

Instructions

Prep the curlers. Depending on what kind of curlers you are using, there are different methods of preparation. Hot curlers need to be heated up before they are placed in your hair. Allow the curlers to heat up for at least 10 to 15 minutes. If you are using foam curlers, you must make sure that the curlers are free of any hair. If you've used the curlers before, it is possible that there are stray hairs wrapped around the foam portion of the curler. If you don't remove these stray hairs, it can cause your hair to get tangled up in the curler when you remove them.

Prep your hair. If you are placing curlers in clean hair, it is essential that you make sure your hair is completely dry. You don't want your hair to be damp because dampness contributes to flat and frizzy curls. Once your hair is dry, brush it out. Make sure there are no knots or tangles.

Section your hair so it does not get tangled up when you are putting the curlers in. Many individuals like to use a bear clip or duck clips. If you use a bear claw, put 3/4 of your hair up and leave 1/4 of your hair down. If you are using duck clips, pin up three sections of your hair and leave a fourth section down. The section that is down will be the first section you work on.

Starting with the bottom of your hair, put the curlers into your hair. If you are using hot curlers, spritz each piece of hair lightly before you put the curler in. If you are using foam curlers, do not spritz your hair with hairspray. Take the small portion of hair and wrap it around the curler. Start from the bottom of your hair and roll the curler up towards your scalp. Once you finish the bottom section, continue with the rest of your hair going section by section until it is complete.

Once you have the curlers in, it's time to let them do their job and set the curls. The setting time differs depending on whether you are using hot curlers or foam curlers. Leave hot curlers in for around 10 to 15 minutes. While they are setting, you can finish the rest of your regime or do your makeup. If you are using foam curlers, go about the rest of your day or night and leave them in for a minimum of five hours.

Remove the curlers. Starting with the bottom section of your hair carefully unroll the curlers. Continue taking the curlers out until they have all been removed. Once that is complete, spritz your hair with flexible hold hair spray. Enjoy your new curls!
