How to Style Hair Like Alicia Keys

Alicia Keys has been seen wearing many fashionable hairstyles: straightened, curly, up or with accents. Alicia Keys's hairstyle looks best on those with thick African American hair to hold her looks, but it can be made to work for others with medium-length to long hair, especially those whose hair is thick. Keep long bangs and layers to have each style turn out best.

Use pictures of Alicia Keys as a guide to which style you're going for and how it must look once complete. To wear it straight, blow-dry the hair and run a straightening iron through it. Apply a smoothing serum such as Phyto's Phytolisse to keep locks looking straight and shiny.

Add some loose waves for a sexy look. This look works on almost anyone. Apply a hairstyling mousse like Aveda's Be Curly curl enhancer to wet hair, then blow-dry out. Use hot rollers or a large barrel curling iron and add some larger waves to your hair. Sweep bangs to the side across your forehead to glamorize your Alicia Keys look.

Create tight curls or allow your naturally tight curls to show, wearing your hair either down or up. Tight curls work best with naturally curly hair but can be added to hair that's not fine and not very heavy by using small barrel rollers or a curling iron, then finger combing through the hair.

Wear tightly curled hair down and use a volumizing styling product such as Aveda's Pure Abundance volumizing hair spray to give your hair shape. Create an updo by brushing the top of your hair straight, then using a ponytail holder to create a low ponytail and allowing the tight curls to sit at the back of your neck. Apply hair spray to keep everything in place.

Visit a salon to get corn rows put in, or just add some braids to the top of your hair and allow curls to come out the bottom. You can also pull back the top of your hair and allow loose curls to hang down with a ponytail in the middle to lower part of your head.
