Formal occasions call for the most sophisticated of styles. To maximize your glamour, you'll need the right hair to make a lasting impression. Long hair can be a challenge to style, and leaves some women frustrated before big events. From curly to straight, and all areas in between, you can find a stress-free look that works for your long hair. Get your styling tools ready, and be the belle of the ball with these tips.
Long Glamorous Roller-Set Curls
Long curls are glamorous and sexy all at once. This look is ideal for a woman in her 20s. The style is simple but must be done at least five hours before the event. Wash and blow-dry the hair completely. Use a paddle brush as you blow-dry to make the hair as sleek as possible. Once the hair is dry, apply a curl-setting lotion or curl-enhancing gel to the hair from ends up to roots. Working the product into the ends first will minimize build up on the scalp. Once the product has been incorporated through the hair, begin rolling the hair into rollers. You'll want your sections no larger than two inches wide. If you are using hot rollers, do not set the rollers too close to the scalp. Wait five hours for the curls to set and then release the curls. Do not brush the curls; just finger comb with your hands. Finish this look with hairspray.
Pretty Ponytail
This style is a dressed-up twist on the standard ponytail. Take clean dry hair and spray a heat protectant on the hair and comb through. Part the hair to the side and curl the front sections of your hair (whichever way you like) with a curling iron. Leave the front sections loose, and secure the rest of the hair into a low ponytail with an elastic. Take a 1-inch wide section of the hair in the ponytail and wrap it around the elastic to disguise it. Finish the look with a shine spray.
Stick Straight and Smooth
Having long, sleek, straight hair will make you the envy of every girl. This look works well on women of any age. Wash the hair with a moisturizing shampoo and apply a leave in conditioner. Blow-dry the hair completely dry and apply a heat protectant to the hair. Comb the heat protectant though with a wide-toothed comb. Take a 1 -inch wide section of hair and straighten it with a flat iron. Start at the top just a half-inch away from the root and work your way to the ends. Limit your passes to four per section to prevent burning the hair. Once you have straightened all the hair, wait for it to cool, then apply a silicone-based shine spray to enhance the smoothness.
Prim and Proper Bun with Side Braid
A bun can seem too straight-laced for a formal event, but this twist on the classic bun may be just what you need to turn heads. Part clean hair to the side. Brush the hair thoroughly with a paddle brush to smooth out any tangles. Make a small braid along either side of the part and clip the braid into place. Gather the rest of your hair into a low ponytail and secure with an elastic. Use bobby pins to pin the hair into a tight bun. Finish the look with hairspray to prevent any wisps of hair from escaping.
Sleek Half Updo
This look is sweet and proper with no fussy straightening or curling needed. Wash and condition the hair with a volume-enhancing shampoo and conditioner. Apply a heat protectant spray to the hair and comb through while still wet. Wet hair is susceptible to damage, so comb carefully with a wide-toothed comb. Blow-dry the hair completely with a paddle brush to get the hair as smooth and straight as your can. Take your paddle brush and brush a three-inch wide section of hair in the front back. Make sure this section is in the middle of the forehead and not too far right or left. Secure this hair with a clip, comb smooth and finish with a shine spray.
