Long, cascading, wavy hair is a style that evokes both romance and glamour, and yet can also make you look like you just rolled out of bed. It is a versatile style that can take you from the beach to the red carpet. Creating this look relies on product, technique and the natural volume and texture of your hair. It helps to have a bit of natural curl or wave, but even women with straight hair can achieve this look.
Instructions
- 1
Wash your hair with shampoo that is made for your hair type. Use warm water, not hot. Clean hair will look shiny and healthy, and your style will last longer.
2Condition your hair with a conditioner made for your hair type. Work it with your hands all the way from your roots to the very ends. Leave it on for a few moments to absorb, then rinse well with warm water.
3Towel-dry hair, leaving it damp but not dripping wet. Gently loosen any tangles with a very wide-toothed comb. Bend over at the waist, with your hair hanging down in front of you. Use a hair dryer with a diffuser to dry your hair while you scrunch it, or let your hair air dry, scrunching it to create texture and waves.
4Apply your favorite styling mousse or gel to your palms, then work it through your hair from roots to ends. Scrunch your hair again. Wrap your locks around your fingers to create waves and define curls and shape.
5Heat up a large-barreled curling iron. Grab small sections of hair and wrap around the curling iron's barrel, corkscrew style. Heat the hair for a short period of time, then release it. Let hair cool completely, then loosely finger wave your hair. Alternatively, use heated rollers in place of the curling iron. Let hair dry, then unroll and tousle to loosen waves.
6Apply a finishing spray to hold waves in place. Lightly spray all hair. Create a textured look by pulling out individual strands. Apply a balm or styling wax to create definition.
