Micro Braids are a popular choice for women who desire a low maintenance hairstyle without sacrificing class and versatility. One of the major benefits is having a style that can last two to three months, while promoting hair growth. In fact, many women wear this style of braids to help them transition to natural, un-permed hair. Because they are mostly loose and free-flowing toward the bottom, they look and can be styled much like natural, unbraided hair. Even celebrities like Beyonce have been known to wear these braids.

Make Your Micro Braids a Major Hit
- 1
Map out what you want to do with your hair before you begin. Blogs or websites by those with braids, or sites with professional advice are extremely helpful. They can give great step-by-step instructions with pictures, and some even have video tutorials for you to follow.
2Wash your hair to rid it of products that will affect the styling process. Human hair, especially, will respond better if you start fresh. On the other hand, part of the convenience of micro braids is that they don't need to be washed as often. If you have just washed your hair, just gotten your braids, or feel confident you won't have any troubles getting your perfect style, feel free to style without washing.
3Protect your hair with the proper products. Braid spray is specially formulated for use with all types of braided hair. Other products like a thermal protectant or conditioning spritz can be used in the loose, non-braided portion of the hair to prepare and preserve your hair style.
4Detangle the hair with a paddle brush or wide tooth comb. Be sure you are only using these tools toward the very bottom of the hair where it is loose.
5Curl your hair using rollers or a curling iron, depending on preference and the type of hair your stylist used for your braids. This is very important to know as synthetic hair can melt in a curling iron. Human hair can be treated just as you would your own natural hair. You want to make sure the unbraided portion of the hair has some style and shape.
6Secure the hair with bobby pins if necessary for the style. Use a large, sturdy, elastic band for ponytails and updos. You want to make sure the band you use will not break and has enough elasticity to hold the hair right where you place it.
As a finishing touch, spray the hair with a moisturizing braid spray or oil sheen.
