Short Emo Hair Styles for Thick Curly Hair

The term "emo" may stem from the word "emotional," however, there are many ways to interpret the term. Most emo styles consist of dark hair, distinctive eye make-up and the ultimate in self-expression. Funky and trendy styles are openly embraced by self- proclaimed emos. They also have a rocker-type attitude when it comes to their style. Having curly hair may make it a bit challenging to cop the classic emo looks, but with the right tools and a bit of time you will be able to achieve many emo styles.

You can work with your hair's natural texture but just add a little more "edge" to your look. Use a soft sculpting gel and work it into your hair. Shape your hair into some soft spikes, let your defined curls stick straight up, in a "you don't bother me gravity, I defy you" kind of way. For an added funky effect, use a bit of colored sculpting gel on the tips of your curls, or just directly in the front where it will be most noticeable. Work the part if you want. Push a few curls down in the front to make bangs, and use hands to make a zigzag style part. Try a few variations to see which ones look the best. Use a color that will bring out your eyes to add an even more dramatic effect.

Work some pomade into all of the hair. Comb all of your hair straight back in one direction. It will look very shiny .Use a small-bristled brush after you get it into the sleek shape. Go over the hair and recomb it back in the same direction as before. This will smooth the areas that were separated by the teeth in your comb. Use a cool and funky headband to polish off the look. Use a bit of water and stash a brush in your bag if curls start to show. Just smooth the hair back again and the water will reactivate the pomade, so there's no need to weigh hair down with more product.

Start with damp hair and work in a bit of mousse, or anything that works with your hair type, to help straighten it. Use a small, flat paddle brush and work hair out from root to tip as you pull it gently straight. Blow dry each section on hot, then blast a little cool air after it has straightened out some. You will have to work in sections all around your head. This will take a bit of time so plan accordingly. Now you are ready to use the "big gun." Heat up a high-quality straightener and go back over the sections you just did with the flat brush. Move the straightener slowly but keep it moving so you don't damage your hair. Use a spray gel to hold the style. Get funky with it and add some colored product to the tips of your freshly straightened hair. Toss hair over to one side and comb it over, or you can push it foreword. Play and experiment until it looks the way you want.
