How to Style Hair Coils on Black People

Hair coils is an optimum hair style for work or play. The simple style holds well with black hair because of the thick, kinky texture. Black woman who are choosing a more natural hairstyling technique, and a break from processing chemicals, can wear hair coils for a simple style that offers low maintenance. Hair coils may take a couple of hours to complete depending on the length and thickness of your hair.

Instructions

Wash hair with your usual shampoo. You can use your regular conditioner or a specialized deep conditioner. Place the product on your hair, put on a plastic cap and sit under a hooded dryer for 10 to 15 minutes. Wash out completely with lukewarm water.

Section the hair into four sections; two in the front and two in the back. Hold the hair in place with duckbill clips.

Start with one of the back sections and separate the hair into small, diamond-shaped parts. Use the tail end of the rattail comb to separate the hair so that the parts are neat.

Take a small pea-sized amount of beeswax or holding gel and apply it to the small section of your hair.

Take your thumb and forefinger of one hand and grip your hair, close to the scalp. Take the other hand and grip the ends of your hair and start twisting. Move your hands so that the hair is wrapping around your forefinger. Once the bottom section is twisted, remove your hand holding the top part of your hair and place the rattail comb there, at the root of the hair. Resume twisting your hair while using the rattail comb to hold down the roots.Continue to twist the hair until all of the hair is twisted, but don't twist too tight. Your hair will have a springy, coil-like shape once you are done.

Repeat steps 4 and 5 until all of the hair in the section is done before moving on to another section. Once the whole head is done, sit under a hooded dryer or allow to air-dry.
